Job Description

Salary: $75,000 - 95,000 per year Requirements:

  • U.S. citizenship
  • Hands-on coding experience through coursework, personal projects, internships, or similar technical work
  • Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and web or backend development concepts
  • Ability to learn quickly and collaborate on an Agile software development team
  • Willingness to work in a hybrid role in Arlington, VA, or Washington, DC, after training
Responsibilities:
  • Build and improve full-stack applications, APIs, and microservices
  • Develop software using Java, Python, Spring Boot, Node.js, React, and related technologies
  • Use AI coding tools to assist with implementation, refactoring, testing, debugging, and documentation
  • Help modernize and containerize existing applications
  • Develop automated unit and integration tests
  • Contribute to CI/CD workflows and cloud deployments
  • Troubleshoot applications using logs, documentation, and development tools
  • Participate in technical design discussions, proofs of concept, code reviews, and Agile development
  • Collaborate with software engineers, product teams, and security and compliance partners

We at Smoothstack are hiring multiple entry-level software engineers for a paid, 10-week remote, team-based training program followed by a hybrid client assignment supporting U.S. government agencies. Training covers AI-assisted full-stack development, secure software engineering, cloud delivery, testing, and enterprise engineering practices, with a production-style capstone. During training, we provide a biweekly stipend and benefits. The client assignment offers a Year 1 salary of $75,000–$80,000 and a Year 2 salary of $95,000, along with medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) matching, voluntary life insurance, and 11 paid days off per year. We also offer industry certification opportunities and up to $3,000 in relocation assistance; no training repayment is required. After 12 months on assignment, there may be an opportunity to convert directly to a full-time client role. The position is based in Arlington, Virginia, or Washington, DC.
